Why we love this recipe-
- These cookies are made with easy sugar cookies!
- We made a delicious homemade frosting to top the cookies, and serve as the water for our gummy shark candies.
- You don’t need any special cutters or complicated royal icing for these cookies.
Shark Cookie Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups unsalted butter, softened, divided
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 3 tsp. Vanilla extract, divided
- Pinch of salt
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- Blue gel food coloring
- Teal gel food coloring
- 24 gummy sharks
Directions:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit, and line a cookie sheet or baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. Set aside.
Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, beat together 1 cup butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, egg yolk, and 2 tsp. vanilla, mix well. Slowly add the dry ingredients, mixing as you go. If dough becomes too thick, use cookie dough beaters or fold the mixture together until everything is incorporated.
Step 4: Use a 1.5 inch cookie scoop to scoop the sugar cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
Step 5: Bake for 9-11 minutes, until edges of cookies are golden brown.
Step 6: Allow the cookies to cool slightly, then move them to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
Step 7: For the white icing, beat 1 cup of butter, until smooth. Mix in salt, and 1 tsp. Vanilla. Slowly add powdered sugar, mixing to combine.
Step 8: Divide the frosting mixture in half into two separate bowls.
Step 9: To the first bowl, add 3-4 drops of blue food coloring. Mix well.
Step 10: To the second bowl, add 3-4 drops of teal food coloring and mix well.
Step 11: To combine the frostings together, lay out two pieces of plastic wrap. Add the blue frosting to one and the teal frosting to the other. Wrap up the frostings inside the plastic wrap, twisting the ends. Snip off one of the twisted ends of the wrap.
Step 12: To a piping bag with a 4B star tip, add both colors, with the end you cut towards the bottom near the piping tip.
Step 13: Gently squeeze the bag with even pressure so that the colors come out together. Pipe frosting onto your cookies, and add a gummy shark candy to the top of each cookie.
