Salisbury Steak Meatballs | with Bacon Roasted Green Beans

If you are looking for a delicious meatball recipe, this is it. These Salisbury Steak Meatballs are inspired by delicious Salisbury steak with a french onion soup gravy. We served them over egg noodles with a side of these bacon roasted green beans. Meatballs might seem a little complicated, making them from scratch, but they really couldn’t be simpler, as long as you have the right ingredients.

Salisbury Steak Meatballs

Salisbury Steak Meatballs | with Bacon Roasted Green Beans

Here’s what you’ll need to make these-

  • 1 ½ lb. ground beef
  • 2 (10.5 oz) cans of french onion soup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 cups Panko breadcrumbs, divided
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

My husband swears by a panko breadcrumb mixture for the best meatballs. Here’s how to make this verison.

  • In a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of the Panko breadcrumbs and milk, set aside.
  • In another large bowl, beat eggs, and add in salt, pepper, and garlic.
  • Add ground beef and mix the beef and egg mixture until just combined.
  • Add  ½ of a can french onion soup (save the remaining for later), breadcrumb mixture, and additional 1 cup of dry breadcrumbs. Mix again, just until combined.
    • Be careful not to overwork your meatball mixture when combining ingredients.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, 1 ½ cans of french onion soup, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Set sauce mixture aside.
  • Form 1 inch meatballs from the mixture.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Slightly brown your meatballs, 1-2 minutes per side, just to crust the outsides.
  • Pour sauce mixture over the meatballs and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer 18-20 minutes, until meatballs are cooked through.
  • While the meatballs are finishing, prep your egg noodles or rice to serve the meatballs over.

Now, if you want to make the bacon roasted green beans, here’s what you’ll need-

  • 1 ½ – 2 lbs fresh green beans
  • 12 oz package of regular sliced bacon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

To make them-

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  • Boil the green beans for 3-5 minutes.
  • Drain the water, and set beans aside.
  • Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  • Layer the green beans onto your baking sheet, then layer slices of uncooked bacon over top.
  • Bake for 20-22 minutes, until bacon is cooked through and green beans are tender.
  • For serving, chop the cooked bacon and sprinkle over top of the green beans.
