Pumpkin Moon Sand Activity for Kids
We are still in pumpkin season, and today I have a fun activity that your younger kids (and maybe older, too) will love. We whipped up this Pumpkin Moon Sand and my son was in love. He played with this for the longest time, I think he sat in my kitchen floor for over an hour digging in this stuff. So, I wanted to share how we made it so you can make some up, too!

Here’s what you’ll need to make this Pumpkin Moon Sand.
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
Chances are, if it’s Fall, you’ve already got all of this stuff in your pantry.
I threw in some fun extras, a pumpkin cookie cutter, and you can toss in some plastic pumpkins, too. But honestly, with just some spoons or measuring cups, my little guy loves it. He always wants to help me cook and is always pretending, plus he loves to dig in the dirt. This is the best of both worlds.
Here are some of the things that I used in this bin over on Amazon-
So basically to make this, you just dump all of the ingredients into your bin and mix them together.
I definitely suggest playing with this somewhere that makes cleanup easy. Outside would be best, but it worked out fine in our kitchen floor, too. After I swept I had to get out my swiffer though, because the oil in this did make the floor kind of slippery.
You really could take this base (the flour, oil) and add any seasonings that would make it fun- apple, etc. Another bonus, it will probably make your kitchen smell great, too!
So, whip this up for some afternoon fun that will keep your kids busy for a while. My 2 year old was not as interested as his big brother, but he did play for quite a while. The best part about that is all of these ingredients are obviously edible, so if he did get it in his mouth, it was no big deal.
Let me know if you make this at home, I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments!
