If your kids are like mine, I bet they love the Chicka Chicka books- they love both Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123, but today’s activity is geared towards the fun letters in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

I recreated a fun sandy coconut tree environment with some magnet letters (a staple in my kid’s activity stash- we use them all the time).

I love setting up book-themed activities for them, it is a great way to bring the stories to life and get them thinking about what we read.

For this activity, you need just 4 things-

The sand does get messy, so this would be a great outdoor experience, but my boys just love digging, so this was perfect for them.

Start by filling your bin with sand and planting your coconut trees. In the book, the letters are climbing the coconut trees, so these little cake toppers were perfect. For a bigger tree, you could use these table party decorations, too.

Then you are ready to play. Here are a few ideas-

  • Bury the letters and ask your littles to find a specific letter
  • Let them find the letters and then tell you what they find.
  • Have them find specific colored letters
  • Have them put the letters in order to make up the ABCs
  • Of course, free dig! Let them use their imagination and just have fun with the bin.

You could even read aloud while your little ones play for a fun reading time experience.

My boys love this bin. When you finish with the bin, save what supplies you can for the next activity. The sand would do a great beach bin (ahem, coming soon) or whatever other creative ideas you have. Then, like I said we always have a set of magnet letters and numbers around as they come in handy with a lot of different activities.

Stay tuned for more Chicka Chicka Boom Boom fun coming soon!
