How to Make Perfect Sausage Gravy

This is the easiest gravy recipe, ever, we have made it a gazillion times and it always turns out perfect. I mean, just look at it. The sausage and pepper, yum! Your family will definitely be requesting sausage gravy and biscuits once they give this a try.

Here’s what you’ll need-

  • 1 lb. breakfast sausage, mild
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pepper

To make it, start by pinching off the sausage into small pieces and browning it in a skillet. Once the sausage is browned, DO NOT DRAIN THE GREASE, sprinkle in 1/3 cup of flour, slowly, letting the flour absorb as you are mixing. Next, pour in your milk, and sprinkle in your salt and pepper. It looks like a LOT of pepper, but that is accurate. Pepper is the secret here.

Cook the gravy on medium heat until it begins to simmer, stirring frequently. The gravy will thicken, once you have your desired consistency, remove from the heat. The gravy will thicken even more as it cools, so keep that in mind.

Next, you have to eat all of the gravy, because I have not found a great way to save gravy leftovers. Haha… seriously, though, we usually don’t have any left. Try pouring the gravy over top of your biscuits, or if your kiddos are a little picky like mine, they love using their gravy for dipping!

Be sure to bookmark or PIN this recipe, so that you can refer back to it when you are planning your Sunday breakfast this week. We also love to have this whenever we do breakfast for dinner. It is always a hit.
