Hey guys! Today I am sharing a recipe with you that really takes me back to my childhood. I remember my mom always making this Hot Turkey Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, it was definitely a family favorite! It is filled with all of the best comfort foods, including mashed potatoes and turkey!

It sounds crazy- a turkey and mashed potato SANDWICH?! But yes, and they are amazing. This recipe is so simple and easy to make, and you’ll have everyone requesting to have these for dinner again.

Here’s what you’ll need, and this recipe serves 4.

  • 8 slices of bread
  • Mashed potatoes
I typically mash up about 8 medium sized russet potatoes just to make sure there are enough for everyone. I peel and quarter my potatoes and boil them until they slide right off of a fork or start to fall apart. Then, I drain them and mix in about 1/2 cup of milk with 4-5 tbsp of butter, plus salt and pepper to taste & whip them up with my mixer.
  • Your favorite turkey gravy
You can used canned (heat it up in the microwave or in a sauce pan on the stove) or your preferred packaged gravy mix (just prepare it according to the directions on the pack). I usually make two.
  • Thick sliced Deli turkey

Now, to make your Hot Turkey and Mashed Potato Sandwiches, it’s super simple. Once you have your mashed potatoes and your gravy prepared, you’ll just want to heat your turkey slices (2-3 slices per sandwich works great, depending on their thickness) for a few seconds in the microwave. You’ll start layering ingredients, with two slices of bread on the bottom, followed by the slices of deli meat, then mashed potatoes, and topped with gravy. They are so easy and delicious.

I’ve found that our family loves each assembling their own hot turkey sandwiches. One person may like more mashed potatoes, or less bread. It just depends on personal preferences and that is the good thing about this recipe, that everyone can set their sandwich up just how they want it. You can have turkey and mashed potatoes any time of year without having to use the oven. Talk about having comfort food any time you want it.
