Valentine's Day Rice Krispie Treats

Why we love this recipe-

  • We love homemade cereal treats, and these are so much fun to make.
  • These colorful treats are just perfect for enjoying on Valentine’s Day. We used candy melts that gave such a bright pink color and red color- they’re so bright!

Valentine Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp. Unsalted butter
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups rice krispie cereal
  • 12 oz. red candy melts
  • 12 oz. pink candy melts
  • Valentine’s Day sprinkles
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Directions:

Step 1: In a large saucepan or a large pot, melt butter over medium-low heat.

Step 2: Add marshmallows, and stir until marshmallows are melted and everything is combined.

Step 3: Remove from the heat and stir in rice krispies cereal. Stir well to coat all of the cereal in the marshmallow mixture.

Step 4: Line a medium rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper (or aluminum foil- if using foil, spray with non-stick cooking spray).

Step 5: Pour the rice krispies mixture into your sheet, and use a sheet of wax or parchment paper to press the mixture down into the pan. It doesn’t need to go to the edges, but try to have them in an even layer, about ½ inch thick.

Step 6: Give the rice krispie mixture about an hour to set.

Step 7: Use your heart cookie cutter to cut heart shapes out of your rice krispie sheet, angling them to get the most hearts that you can. Set these aside on a piece of parchment or wax paper.

Step 8: Melt your candy melts in two separate bowls, microwaving on 30-second intervals, stirring well between each cycle.

Step 9: Dip half of each treat in either pink or red melted candy melts, and then sprinkle with Valentines sprinkles.

Step 10: Give the candy an hour to set, and enjoy!

Store any leftovers in an airtight container, for up to a week. Room temperature is fine.

Substitutions & Tips:

  • If you prefer, swap the candy melts for melted chocolate. You can melt white chocolate chips, and add food coloring if you want to make a different color.
  • You could also add a different color melted candy to a piping bag to drizzle over the treats after you dip them in their original color.
