What is fruit pizza made of?

Usually, fruit pizza has a sugar cookie bottom, a frosting or whipped topping, and fresh fruit toppings on top. You can make a fruit pizza for any occasion with any fruit you prefer, but this red white and blue fruit pizza recipe is a fun patriotic version.

4th of July Fruit Pizza Ingredients:

  • 16.5 ounces sugar cookie dough
  • 8 ounces cream cheese

  • About 8 strawberries, tops removed  sliced
  • ¾ cup fresh blueberries

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

Step 2: To make the sugar cookie base, crumble the sugar cookie dough over a 12 inch pizza pan.

Step 3: Press the dough into the pan and press together to make your crust, leaving about 1 inch of space around the edge of the pan.

Step 4: Bake for 16-20 minutes, until the cookie crust is golden.

Step 5: Allow the cookie crust to cool completely.

Step 6: In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add vanilla and sugar and mix to combine.

Step 7: Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cookie crust in an even layer.

Step 8: Decorate the cream cheese layer with your fruit, we opted to do a row of blueberries around the outside, a row of strawberries, another row of blueberries, then we made a strawberry star with blueberries in the middle. So, two rows of blueberries total, a row of strawberries, and a star made from fruit in the middle.

Substitutions & Tips:

  • To lighten this recipe up even more, skip the frosting and opt for whipped cream or cool whip to cover the cookie pizza.
  • In hindsight, it would be beneficial to line your 12-inch pizza pan with parchment paper to easily remove the cookie from the pan once it is finished baking. You can also spray the pizza pan with cooking spray, but I try not to do that on anything that is supposed to be non-stick.
  • You can arrange your fruit to look like a flag for an American Flag Fruit Pizza, just do the upper left hand corner with blueberries, and make red stripes with the strawberries, leaving white stripes in between with the cream cheese mixture.
  • For easier fruit star creation, add a star cookie cutter to the middle of the fruit pizza, fill it with blueberries, and then remove the cookie cutter.
  • Feel free to substitute any red or blue fruit on this fruit pizza- raspberries are a great option, and even blackberries would be fun to use.
