Shamrock Shake Recipe | Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake
Today I’m going to tell the story about how I became obsessed with mint chocolate chip ice cream one time… as in, probably purchased a container every two weeks for a month and a half. It’s seriously the BEST mint chocolate chip, and perfect for making this Shamrock Shake!
To be honest, I never even realized that I liked mint chocolate chip ice cream. I was always thinking gross, no way, ignoring the fact that I love Thin Mints Girl Scout cookies (it is that time of year, again), and Andes mints. My great grandparents always had Andes mints in a bowl at their house and that is what I always think of whenever I see them. As a kid I looked forward to getting one of those mints!
Shamrock Shake Ingredients
So, I wanted to make a Shamrock Shake to share on the blog, and as I was browsing the aisles at Aldi doing my grocery shopping, their mint chocolate chip ice cream caught my eye, so I went ahead and grabbed it to whip up these shakes. As it turns out, Aldi has THE BEST mint chocolate chip ice cream and I highly recommend it, or, Haagen-dazs, but theirs is white, so you’d definitely have to add extra food coloring if you use it.
Here’s what I used to make them.
- 3-4 large scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream
- 1 cup milk
- 2-3 drops green gel food coloring
- Whipped cream for topping
- Andes or any other chocolate mints for topping
How to Make a Shamrock Shake
Okay so to make these, toss your mint chocolate chip into your blender. We use this one, and it kind of sounds like a rocket taking off, to be honest. Also add your food coloring and milk, and blend!
There are some mint chocolate chip ice creams out there that are already green, but I’d still add just a few drops to make it more festive. This gel food coloring is awesome and gives some really great color.
Once you have your milkshake blended (you can add more ice cream to make it thicker or more milk to make it less thick), pour it into your glass.
Finally, top with whipped cream and yummy chocolate mints.
And there you have it, the best ever Shamrock Shake. For a printable version of the recipe, see below!
